The Gyln Robinson, Sports Motorcycles Ducati’s sponsored Pantahs

Adding to Sports Motorcycles success stories with world class riders and events over a period of more than 30 years, Glyn Robinson provides his customers with Ducati race bikes that are an improvement on the Ducati Works bikes. Sports Motorcycles were world beaters against the Japanese marques back in the day, and they retain all the traditional hallmarks of the classic Works machines. Sports Motorcycles racing was historically based around Ducati. The same is true of Sports Motorcycles today as then, some bikes are modified factory machines, others virtually built from scratch as with Bill and Chris’s pair of sponsored Ducati Pantah V-twins which Glynn constructed for the Summer Classic event.

Much in demand in pit lane, in addition to his sponsored machines Glyn also provided varying degrees of hands-on, and laptop on, support in the pits for another 7 Classic racing Ducati enthusiasts at Hampton Downs—now that’s high quality after sales service!

Racing back to the future: 1987, Bill Swallow, Glynn Robinson and a certain 900ss Ducati bevel

The full noise about Bill and Glyn’s racing history is over on Glyn’s bio at Sports Motorcycles. In this excerpt from that story, Glyn explains how it emerged:

After racing the 900SS for 2 years there was little more improvement that could be made to the standard chassis – something else was needed. In February 1987 Glyn designed and built a new Bevel powered chassis in just 6 weeks. This bike was campaigned by Bill Swallow in the 1987 Norman Hyde Classic Championship…

Rounds 3 & 4, Sunday, 8 February. Races 28–45.

Round 3 of the Summer Classic started at about 09:30 Sunday morning right after the postponed Round 2 TT2 ‘08’ race, the third round finished with race 36-08. Round 3 races (3–4 laps} flowed seamlessly into the 4 laps races of the final round commencing right with Race 37. At lunch there was a reprise of the spirited Britten & Norton demo. After lunch the final half dozen races of Round 4 rapidly wound up the spectacular, sweet running Summer Classic event.

A huge vote of thanks to the all the Marshalls and NZCMRR admin volunteers.

Thanks to all Clubmen and women for staging and managing the second spectacular, highly successful Classic Motorcycle Racing event of the 2015 calendar.

Sunday Lunch. A quick twin Britten and Norton demo

“Getting into the groove with it…” Andrew Stroud chucks the Britten V1000 round Turn 10, the fastest sweeper on the Hampton Downs circuit, aboard the Kevin Grant-owned 1995 B.E.A.R.S winning Britten. Stroud won the Battle-of-the-Twins at Daytona on Britten superbikes in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. Stroud and Stephen Briggs raced for two separate Britten teams in the 1995 B.E.A.R.S event. They recorded a 1-2 finish in the race after lapping almost half the field.

McIntosh Manx Norton, IOM Classic 2014 victor

Brittens_Nortons-3542Bruce Anstey won the Hailwood Trophy and clocked up his tenth win at the Isle of Man Classic aboard the McIntosh Manx Norton.
From a field of over 80 bikes Bruce rode a superbly judged race to bring the New Zealand built 1962 Norton home victorious.
